Reflective Summary
My learning experience across the unit BA1b
Through the duration of this unit, I have learned a multitude of skills that I will utilise in future projects; these include on how to compromise when collaborating with others as well as adapting to fit the requirements of a task. When working in a group I found that conflicting with one another creatively is necessary in order to gain an outcome that evidences each individual in some aspect - it is important to take everyone's ideas into consideration, even if they don't coalesce with your own. Another learning curve of this project was working within the parameters of the task at hand; our idea for the magazine project fell under the umbrella of more adult content rather than being inclusive of all age groups. To resolve this we labelled the content we were producing as strictly 18+ and limited the access underage consumers had to buying the magazine by only selling the issues in bars and clubs.
The marketing report and asset designing were my favourite parts of BA1b as I was able to research in-depth about Peachy Den who I hope to - in the future - have an internship with. Peachy Den has a wide fan base wherein lies a community of people who genuinely love fashion. Understanding the effort that has gone into making the brand what it is today was amazing to discover and has unlocked a new sense of appreciation for their products. I also loved the task of designing brand assets for them as I could envelop my own style into these as well as exploring alternative advertisements through physical media rather than online.
Planning and organising
When working in a group, keeping in touch with each others rhythms and creative flow proved difficult at first due to everyone working at different paces. In the end, we communicated and curated a plan that fitted everyone's needs accordingly - this included listing which peer was doing what when making our media pack and powerpoint to promote our magazine. The constructive criticism we received after presenting our magazine was that we needed to develop our ideas more, however, we were applauded for our fluidity when presenting and how each person's role was chosen very well.
When writing the marketing report it was tricky to navigate such a complex piece of written work, but, with our provided structure and guided research it was made a lot simpler and enjoyable. Making the report complimentary to the brand's identity and pre-planning the aesthetic I wanted to incorporate is a transferable skill that will help me in future brand-related projects.
Evaluation of my creative outcomes
The outcomes for the magazine project were just what we envisioned and it was amazing to see our collaborative ideas come to life. If we had more time, I think we could have definitely developed the article aspect of the magazine more - perhaps writing a snippet of one of the article ideas on the front cover to give more of an insight into the concept of the magazine and what content to expect.
