Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon was one of the most influential fashion photographers in history; Marylin Monroe, Twiggy and Andy Warhol are just some of the legendary talents that Avedon worked with. His photography allowed the onlooker to see the raw emotions and humanity behind the clothing - capturing moments that some would consider to be unworthy of recognition was what he aimed to show. Political undertones were also a key feature in his work in addition to bringing an authentic feeling to the world of fashion photography.

“Everybody has a life. Everybody has a sensibility. Everybody has yearnings. Everybody has a cause to plead. And everybody has a camera”

My Avedon-inspired work

My interpretation of his work was to chose a final image that emulates the 'caught off guard' look. I chose Imogen as a model due to her striking features as well as her makeup eye makeup being different and attention grabbing. Richard Avedon is one of my favourite photographers that I also studied during my GCSE's so me reevaluating his work was really fun as I have a new perspective of fashion photography.
